We start by selecting parent seed from leading suppliers of corn and soybean genetics. We strive to keep our pipeline full of the latest traits and technologies that offer you the greatest potential for success.

Production seed is planted only under conditions ideal for quick germination and strong early growth.

We grow seed on high-quality, irrigated land to give our products the best potential for top results. Seed fields are irrigated as needed to ensure plants are not being moisture stressed.

Our seed corn is harvested at about 30% moisture to prevent field shelling and minimize damage by harvesting equipment. Terning owns, maintains and operates it’s own harvesting equipment.

Terning has always invested to continually improve our seed production facilities. Our plant includes a gentle bulk ear unloading platform, a belt conveyor that delivers ears to the husking beds, a state-of-the-art dryer and a climate controlled warehouse.

After husking all seed corn is visually inspected so questionable ears and off-types can be removed by hand.

Terning’s seed corn dryer uses automatic reverse-flow air movement to eliminate hot spots that could damage seed germination.

Sizing and handling equipment at Terning’s production plant handles seed slowly and gently to eliminate cracking from high speeds and long drops. Our vibrating conveyors and lifts have poly cups to assure gentle handling. Flat sieves operate slowly to clean and size seed that goes into our product line-up.

Seed conditioning at the Terning plant uses conventional grading and sorting on gravity tables. We also use an infrared color sorter that removes 1-3% additional seed that could have gemination issues caused by microscopic cracks or slight discoloring. Customers benefit from the better quality seed wiht higer gemination — it leads to more healthy plants producing ears.

Terning’s company test plots evaluate current and prospective corn and soybean products under actual field conditions. During the growing season, we make field observations for plant health, standability, root and stalk development and drydown. We harvest, weigh, moisture and test-weight-check all products for first-hand product knowledge.
